We Saw a Man Who Danced With His Wife

First we celebrated Papa Hemingway’s birthday. It would have been better in Key West with some big game (you know, lions and tigers) roaming around, but we made do with cheesecake and flamenco ukulele. See the video here.

Papa Hemingway's Birthday Dance

Then we really did see a man dance with his wife. And what a man! What a wife! We all pretended not to be gawking while Diego and Carolina were taking a spin around the dance floor.

If you missed it, you’ll want to come at 9:15 on Thursday because you never know what celebrity sightings might occur.

The lesson this week will be about musicality and recognizing the stops. The essence of tango is the stops, the pauses. That’s why there’s a whole milonga named La Pausa! It’s that important. And you’ll get a head start on your New Year’s resolution to become a perfect tanguero. You can’t pass that up, can you?

Let’s Dance

The music fills the room. Vibrations. Sensations. Soft beats. Hard beats. That’s what our lesson is about tonight – musicality, finding those hard and soft beats and dancing in time to them.

Let’s see – Xmas Shopping; either you’re all done or it’s too soon to start. Office Party; dreading it but it’s not here yet. Eating Your Weight in Pie; that’s so last week. Dieting to Look Good for New Year’s Eve; too late to start. Redecorating the House for the Holidays; ditto.

There, that nicely clears your agenda for you, doesn’t it?  All that’s left is tango and you’re fresh out of excuses.

So please join us tonight at 9:15 at the Suzanne Patterson Center, 45 Stockton St. in Princeton for good company, good food, good dancing and some of the nicest tangueros in these parts.

Mind Your Manners

We know you’ve been on your best behavior for days what with the relatives and all. You even refrained from throttling that woman at the Black Friday sale. Now you’d like a little respite. Sorry. We have other plans for you.

You know that blank Tango Etiquette page of ours? Well, finally it says something. About time. When you combine that with our four week series of lessons in musicality starting this Thursday, you’re going to be all set for our first Holiday Milonga on December 29th.

Here’s what you have to do – Come to the SPC at 9:15 this Thursday, December 1st for a musicality lesson in listening to the hard and soft beats in tango, vals and milonga. Follow that up with the next three musicality lessons in stops, musical phrases and hearing the strong beat. Read the etiquette page.

By the end of December you’re going to be dancing beautifully, in perfect time to the music, with manners that would make your Mom proud. Us too. You want to make Mom proud, don’t you?

I Won’t Dance

Don’t ask me. Not tonight anyhow. Today is for turkey and stuffing, family and football. Tonight is for sleeping off that tryptophan overload, but not for tango.

Next Thursday, December 1st, we’ll be back in operation with a lesson at 9:15 and a practica at 10:15. Please join us then to start your holidays off right, with tango of course.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from all of us turkeys here at Viva Tango!

Talking turkey

You’re looking good again. We’ve had a major upgrade to our photography skills, thanks to Luba and Wendy. You’ve been nipped, tucked, firmed up and restored to your former glory, just in time to face the relatives for Thanksgiving.  You can see yourself here.  If Uncle Harry starts to bore you, you can even show him.

We wish we could see you in all your new found glamour on Thursday but alas, Viva Tango will be closed for Thanksgiving. We did it for reasons of family, tradition, holidays and, you know, Uncle Harry. Hmmm, we may need to re-think that decision next year. Two weeks without tango is a loooong time.

We hope you’ll miss us as much as we’ll miss you. You’ll come back to us next week on Thursday, December 1st, won’t you? We can be your excuse to get out of another dinner with the in-laws who will probably still be in town.

Dance to the Music

Yes. Get up and dance to the music. Maybe Vittoria and Guillermo are gonna add a little guitar and make it easy to move your feet. You might even hear a cortina of “Ride, Sally Ride.”

You’ll have to come and see. Whatever you do, don’t  be Sly, OK?
Join us tonight at 9:15 at SPC

Oh no! We’ve ruined your looks

Couldn’t help it. We have that really bad, truly inept photographer. We need to fire her. We know you don’t have multiple noses and several pairs of eyes, many more of which can be seen here, but we like seeing you so much we posted those pictures anyhow. Remember when you used to be really good looking…back in September?

We hope you’ll join us this Thursday at 9:15pm for another photo op. Our photographer really, really needs the practice.

Dance Till The Cows Come Home

The very beautiful Vittoria and the very debonair Guillermo spend their spare time touring the exciting, romantic, seductive tango hot spots of this world. They’ve just returned from their most recent trip to… Memphis.  Memphis??? Yup.

They always relate their travels to tango, of course. So we’re thinking the lesson this week is going to be just a little bit country. You know you’re curious.

Join us at 9:15 at the SPC –  $12 admission, $5 for students.

Y’all come to our hoedown now, hear?

It’s you again!

You’re here. You’re in our Picasa album and you’re probably all over Facebook.  It’s great to see you everywhere. But look closely and you’ll see the problem.  There’s too much sitting and standing, People!

We know you want to eat Nelly’s scrumptious food.  We know you want to talk to your friends. And you know we certainly want you to do all that. That’s the reason we have cortinas.  Oops, are we getting a little too single-minded about tango?

We hope you’ll come again Thursday at 9:15 to join us for an evening of, you know, dancing.  Practice makes perfect.
