You’ll rate those 8’s as 10’s

If you come to take our lesson with Angeles Chanaha tonight. Angeles will be focusing on the quality of movement in ochos and pivots. and how to create enough time to add embellishments and stylize your shoulders, torso and legs. Tangoing well is one thing. Looking good while you’re doing it is even better.

Join us at  9:15 tonight at the  Suzanne Patterson Center for an evening of good dancing, good food, good friends. Admission $12, $5 for students.

Weren’t invited to Mardi Gras?

That’s OK. We’re inviting you to Jeudi Gras with the incomparable Angeles Chanaha, fresh from her engagement in Taipei.

This week  Angeles and Chulo  start a three week series of lessons about the quality of movement in ochos, walks, and sacadas. Angeles is up first, this Thursday at 9:15 pm  (please note later start time for the next two months.) The subject will be ochos and pivots and how to create enough time to add embellishments and stylize your shoulders, torso and legs. You’re going to need this whether one of those Krewes asks you to lead their parade next year or not.

Come dance with Viva at SPC. We might just have some surprises for you. Maybe beads or doubloons, even coconuts. You never know. Masks are optional.

Viva Tango will be closed today

Awwww.  We’re missing you already. Viva will be closed today, February 16th.

We had a great time at Tusk on Valentine’s Day. If  you weren’t there, you should  have been. Now we’re resting so we can come back better than ever next week.

Valentine’s Day

February 23rd we’ll start a three week progressive cycle of tango lessons with Marcelo “Chulo” Manfredi and Angeles Chanaha, two teachers you won’t want to miss. Watch for our email on Monday. Until then, you’ll be in our tango dreams.

roses r red, violets r blue

Our special milonga is just 4 u!  My Funny Valentine Milonga

Tonight, 8 – 11:30,  Tusk Restaurant, 1736 Route 206 South, Montgomery, NJ.

Please keep in mind that Tusk will not have food service in the Lounge tonight, but bar service will be available.

Also remember that Route 206 is a speed trap and you should watch the speed signs and your speedometer carefully.

No need to send us flowers or candy, just come tango tonight and be our Valentine. It’s your only chance to dance with us this week as Viva will be closed on Thursday, February 16th.  Admission $10, Students $5.

But we’ll have pinwheels tonight anyhow, thanks to Lesley Mitchell. She’s teaching  rocking turns from backward ochos – pinwheels, if you will. You don’t want to miss this. Lesley’s going to keep at it until every last one of us perfects that rocking step! It’s all happening tonight at 8 pm at the Suzanne Patterson Center.

Here’s another thing you don’t want to miss:

My Funny Valentine Milonga  next Tuesday at

Tusk Restaurant and Lounge.

We really want you to be our Valentine.

And finally here’s something you will miss – There will be no Viva Tango Practica next Thursday, February 16th. We’re giving our all to love on Tuesday, Valentine’s Day. We’ll just be pooped out on Thursday.

And the losers are…

Drum-roll, please. We know you’ve had your Oscar nomination in hand for weeks now. We know you’ve been working on your acceptance speech. And we also know Meryl Streep is going to win anyhow. So predictable. That got us to thinking; It’s usually the losers who are more interesting, more provocative, more fun.

Naturally we concluded you’d like to see the losers in our Valentine’s Day Milonga naming contest. Some of them really deserved their nominations:

  • I’m Never Dating Again Milonga

  • Droopy Red Rose Milonga

  • Stupid Cupid Milonga

  • Love’s a Bore Milonga

  • Wish You Were Elsewhere Milonga

  • The Valentine Blahs Milonga

  • Lost Love Milonga

  • I Hate Valentine’s Day Milonga

That should help clarify exactly what your own position is. Whether you love it, hate it, or feel supremely indifferent to Valentine’s Day, you don’t want to miss the fun we’ll be having at My Funny Valentine Milonga next Tuesday at the beautiful Tusk Restaurant.  Romantic music, good dancers, bar service, all excellent reasons to join us at 8. You might even be the target of one of Cupid’s stray arrows.

Just remember to thank us in your acceptance speech.

Don’t cry for me Argentina

In fact, smile, because Lesley Mtchell says “This is our 20th year of teaching tango and I’m still enthralled. Thank you Argentina!” Lesley has lived in Buenos Aires, speaks Spanish fluently, knows where to buy the best custom made tango shoes, can spot a Malbec at 50 paces, and knows who dances at which milongas each night in BsAs. That’s cultural immersion, a Norteamericana by birth, a Porteña at heart.

Lesley will be back at Viva this Thursday at 8 with a lesson in pinwheel turns (not molinetes.) You’ll be saying muy gracias before the night is out and smiling too.

And here’s another reason to smile: You’re just a week and a day away from My Funny Valentine Milonga at the beautiful Tusk Restaurant.

This is turning out to be a very warm, smiley winter, don’t you think?

We’ve got Vittoria and Guillermo (Porteño?: √.) We’ve got voleos (Tango?: √.) We’ve got Villa Urquiza (Style?: √.) We’ve got Nelly’s food (Delicious?: √.)

All we need to make the evening great is you (Photogenic?: √.)
