But beautiful

Tango’s funny, or it’s sad. Or it’s quiet, or it’s mad. It’s a good thing, or it’s bad, but beautiful…

That’s what we’re working on this week under Lesley Mitchell‘s guidance -Beautiful walks, beautiful following, beautiful embellishments. Improve the quality of your movement and beauty will follow you everywhere. And what we need most of all to appreciate the beauty is men. Yes, there will be something in it for you too. So come one and all, leaders and followers, to Viva at SPC  tonight, Thursday at 8.

Looking for Beginner Tango Lessons?

Princeton University is offering a 6 week series of lessons, open to the public, at the Wilson Dance Studio starting at 7pm on Monday, June 18.  See the Princeton Tango Club website for more information.

Looking for a milonga?

We’ve got one coming up – June 30th at All Saints with the fabulous live music of Maurizio Najt. It will be, in a word, beautiful.

How’s your technique?

Not to worry.  We’ve got the solution. Lesley Mitchell and Kelly Ray will teach a series of lessons on leaders’ and followers’ technique, starting this week.

It’s all about how you make your basic movements in tango. If Lesley and Kelly have their way with you, you’ll be making them correctly, gracefully, with style and finesse.

Come see for yourself, this Thursday at 8 at SPC. Admission $12 or $5 for students with ID. And mark your calendars now for our next milonga:

Practice! Practice! Practice!

If only you’d followed that advice when your mother first told you, think where you’d be now. Well, here’s another chance.

We’re having a practica tonight from 8 to 11:45 at SPC. If you’d like a little guidance while practicing your tango, feel free to ask one of the Vivas.

Good food, good fun, good music, an all around good time. Admission $10 and $5 for students with ID.

Don’t forget, our next milonga is Saturday, June 30 at All Saints. We’ll have the spectacular live music of Maurizio Najt. Mark your calendars.

Oh, you didn’t fall for that old chestnut, did you? Well the answer, of course, is practice, practice, practice!

That’s what we’ll be doing this Thursday at 8 at the Suzanne Patterson Center – a practica only, with no lesson.  We’ve got a milonga coming up on June 30th and we want you all to be dancing like finalists on Dancing With The Stars. As you can see from this week’s pictures, some of you are there already.

ChuLo will sweep you away

Right after he puts you on the merry-go-round.  Tonight’s lesson is about calesitas and planeos, two moves that will let the beautiful tanguera in your arms shine. And Marcelo ChuLo Manfredi will provide the polish. It’s 8 o’clock tonight at SPC. Admission is $12 or $5 for students with ID.

We’ve added several more pictures to the album from Monday.

If you didn’t see yourself there before, you’re there now.

Mark your calendars for our next milonga – Saturday, June 30 at All Saints. That’s the night Viva will  sweep you away. We’re into this sweeping thing, but rest assured, there’s no housework involved.

We’re commemorating everything

We’ve got  birthday pictures from last week, merry-go-rounds and pivoting sweeps for this week and a milonga coming up on June 30th. Summer’s off to a good start.

Join us Thursday at 8 for ChuLo‘s lesson on calesitas and planeos, two very flashy moves that will make your tango look ready for prime time. That’s at SPC. Admission $12 or $5 for students with ID.

May 24, 2012

If you would like to have a birthday dance at a practica, please let us know. On the other hand, if you’d like one of your friends to have a birthday dance, it’s probably a good idea to let them know, or you may be in for an unanticipated planeo or two. One way or another someone will be memorialized.

Oh, you know where this is leading…We wish you a Happy Memorial Day!

Fly in 3/4 time

No, this isn’t an airline advertisement. It’s ChuLo’s description of the joys of doing the Argentine vals – flying with a dreamy feeling. To make it dreamier still, Marcelo ChuLo Manfredi will be teaching some nice flowingcombinations tonight, including turns and sacadas, all in 3/4 time, of course.  If your vals is anything less than airborne, you need to take this class. That’s tonight at 8 o’clock at the Suzanne Patterson Center.

We’ll also have a birthday dance (shhh…it’s a secret) but we won’t be divulging how many frequent flyer miles the birthday person has accumulated.

If you haven’t done so already, mark your calendar for Viva Tango’s next milonga, Saturday June 30th at All Saints.

That completes our flight plan for today.

Waltz away dreaming

No, not with George Michael.  We’ve got someone better – ChuLo. Marcelo Manfredi  will teach vals turns and sacadas  Thursday at 8, thereby inducing a dreamy feeling in all.

We’ve also got some dreamy photos (OK, maybe nightmarish) from last week and a few stragglers from prior weeks. Very impressionistic. Or not. Several of them are action photos shot in the dark by our (umm, how shall we say?) sight-challenged photographers. See them here.

Finally, we’re dreaming of our next milonga. It will be Saturday, June 30 at All Saints.

Start practicing with us this Thursday, May 24 at SPC. Until then, sweet dreams to you.
