We’ve got a diva for our pre-Festival festivities

Straight from performing in the El Querandi tango show in Buenos Aires, Cyrena Drusine is teaching at Viva for the next two weeks. Cyrena is a remarkable dancer.  See some of her youtubes here and here.

The very first US Tango Champion, Cyrena has a very impressive list of other accomplishments and worldwide performance credentials. You can read about them on her website http://cyrenatango.blogspot.com/. And yes, there are lots more pictures for those of you with a literary bent.

We’re all so excited about this that ChuLo even volunteered to personally escort her to Viva. He wants to make sure she doesn’t get waylaid by any of the tangueros  in town for the PU Tango Festival this week.

Join us Thursday at 9:15 for her lesson. It’s the best possible preparation you can make for the weekend. There will be several world class dancers in Princeton this week. Viva is proud to present the very first one.

Our Beginners Boot Camp is coming up October 13 and 14. If you are a rank beginner, if you need a review of the fundamentals, if you’re a woman who wants to lead or a man who wants to follow, this is for you. Sign up now.

Good advice in election season, especially as tonight is our last early start. Next week we go back to our winter hours for a couple of months with a 9:15 start time.

So join us tonight at 8.  Chulo and Michelle will review ochos and boleos and it’s ChuLo’s birthday! Cake and dances at SPC. If you’re feeling really festive (and you’ve got every reason to), bring a bottle of wine to share tonight. Admission $12 or $7 for full time students with ID.

It’s just two weeks until our Tango Boot Camp.

And it’s just two days until our Milonga El Poema with the very entertaining Pablo Andrade playing the piano and singing.

Minister of Tango ChuLo and his partner Michelle return on Thursday with another exciting lesson.  Here you are taking the lesson and practicing last week in our Picasa album. But where are the boleos? There will be more photo ops this Thursday at 8 at SPC. When you see that flashbulb popping, throw a Hail Mary boleo.

Our Milonga El Poema is at All Saints this Saturday, September 29 at 8. Live music will be provided by the terrific Pablo Andrade. He sings. He plays piano. He wows. Don’t miss it.

Beginners Boot Camp with the incomparable Lesley Mitchell happens the weekend of October 13 and 14. Tell your friends who’ve always wanted to learn tango. Tell your neighbors. Tell your clergyman’s second cousin.

Phew, that’s an awful lot of talent in one post! Or are we just preaching to the choir?

You’ll be kicking yourself

If you don’t pay attention to ChuLo and Michelle’s lesson on the right way to make your boleos clean and elegant. That’s tonight at 8:00 at SPC. Admission $12 or $5 for full time students with ID.

Our last Beginners Series was such a smashing success we’re doing it again, this time in an intensive Boot Camp format on the weekend of October 13 and 14. Tell all your friends who missed the last one or they’ll be kicking themselves.

Our Milonga El Poema is next week, September 29 at All Saints. It features the singing and piano playing of the very talented, very entertaining Pablo Andrade. You don’t want to miss it. We promise it will be a real kick.

ChuLo is on a roll. He and Michelle will follow up last week’s lesson with one on boleos this Thursday at SPC. Your choice, high or low. As ChuLo puts it, “clean back and front boleos for the beautiful Princetonian tangueras.” Ladies, you can’t possibly stay home after that!

Take a look at last week’s Picasa album, then get out your calendars because we’ve got two important events coming up:

Milonga El Poema

Saturday, September 29 at All Saints Church with Princeton’s own multi-talented composer, pianist, singer Pablo (Mosteiro) Andrade on keyboard. Your invitation is right here.

Beginners Boot Camp

Saturday and Sunday October 13 and 14 with Philadelphia’s own multi-talented artist, tanguera, teacher Lesley Mitchell. Full details here.

Graduates, refreshers, challenges, cakes, bonus lesson, multiple choices, Oy!

We’ve got a lot going on tonight. It’s the last lesson in our Beginner Series and quite a lesson it is. Lesley Mitchell will spend the first 45 minutes on walking to the cross and the next 45 minutes on molinetes. Then the beginners will be graduates and Nelly will have some special cakes to help celebrate. We will invite the new graduates to join us for the intermediate lesson and the practica. If you can remember how scary your first time was, you’ll know what to do.

Then the intermediate lesson starts at 8:30 with Lesley’s easy/difficult molinete challenge. And finally at 9:30 our practica starts with great snacks and fabulous music.

Now it gets complicated:

If you would like to shore up some of your basic tango skills, come at 7 o’clock and take both the beginner and the intermediate lessons. Pay $25 for all the lessons and the entire night (unless you’re already a pre-paid beginner, in which case you’re all set.)

If you would like a refresher course in molinetes from a superb teacher (and who doesn’t need that?), come at 7:45 and join the last half of the beginner lesson followed by the intermediate lesson. Pay $12 for the entire night or $5 if you’re a full time student with ID.

If you’re pressed for time or just plain satisfied with your molinetes, come at 8:30 for the giro/molinete challenge. Also $12 for the entire night.

If you’re confused, Dennis and David will be conducting a symposium in deciphering the emails. Coming to a location near you very soon.

If you’ve read this far, mark your calendars for our next milonga, September 29, featuring the music of Princeton’s very own Pablo Andrade (who is really Pablo Mosteiro. Don’t ask.)

On Thursday it’s Graduation Day for the beginners and for everyone who has been taking Lesley Mitchell‘s three week giro/molinete challenge. That’s an awful lot of you:

August 30, 2012

We’re not sure we’ve got enough caps and gowns to go around, but come any way and we’ll work something out.

If you’d like to brush up on some of the fundamentals of tango, you can take the last beginners class for $25.

Everything takes place Thursday at the Suzanne Patterson Center. $12 admission for the intermediate lesson and practica or $5 for full time students with ID.

Clear your calendars.  Our next milonga is September 29 and features our favorite singing pianist, Pablo Andrade.
