The turkeys come home to roost again

We hate to have to do it but Viva will be closed on Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 22.  It’s our contribution to family values. Stay home and prove to your family that you  can refrain from tango for one day. Eat all the pie you can handle. Then come back to us on November 29. We’ll be waiting for you with open arms and a new lesson by ChuLo and Michelle.

Even though our doors are closed, our mouths are still going so there are a few more things we’d like to say:

Email Problems

Several email servers were reset because of Hurricane Sandy and they kicked us right out the door. If you have not been getting our emails, please put princeton.vivatango@gmail.com in your address book. If that doesn’t restore us to the good graces of your email server, let us know.

Student Fees

Effective December 1, 2012, the admission price for students will be $10.

Volunteers

Viva needs volunteers, particularly in the areas of press relations, social media and DJing. No expertise is necessary, just a desire to learn and the willingness to put in a few hours a week. (OK, for the sake of truth in advertising, DJing requires five times that commitment but it’s also the most rewarding job.) If you think you might be interested in becoming a press czar, a Facebook maven or a DJ, please speak to one of the Vivas.

Holiday Party

Our Holiday Party Milonga will be Thursday, December 20. We had a great time last year and plan to have even more fun at this year’s party, but we can’t do it without you, so please mark your calendars now.

Life after Sandy is slowly getting to a normal pace, we all deserve a Tango break.

Vittoria and Guillermo will continue to teach some of their favorite milonguero moves, learned on their recent trip to Buenos Aires from the last of the Golden Age milongueros. This is a part of tango’s history and romance you don’t want to miss.

Join us tonight at 9:15 at SPC for an evening of good fun, good humor, good food, good tango.

We’d like to announce a great lesson by Vittoria and Guillermo at Viva Tango Thursday night.  But we can’t do that just yet.  The Suzanne Patterson Center still has no heat and no light. (We hope none of you are in that same boat.)

We expect everything at SPC will be fully restored by Thursday.  So please pencil us in for 9:15 Thursday evening and look for our confirmation email later in the week.

Viva Tango cancelled Thursday

Alas, there will be no Halloween Party for us.  We have to cancel because the Suzanne Patterson Center has no heat and no light.

We hope you are all snugly in your homes, safe and sound.

If you need a tango fix (and who doesn’t?) we can recommend three places that have fared better than Princeton in the storm:

Vittoria and Guillermo have a Halloween Milonga tonight in Marlton, NJ.  See http://www.argen-tango.com/?page_id=50 for more information.

Meredith Klein has a milonga Thursday night in Philadelphia.  See http://philadelphiatangoschool.com/milonga.html for information.

Lesley and Kelly have a Masquerade Milonga with a class Friday night in Philadelphia. See http://philadelphiatangoschool.com/milonga.html for information.

See you all next week.

Cacho, Evita, Carlos and Parejita

At a time when tango was really tango, men were really men, a good cigar was only a nickel and Evita Peron was in her heyday, three now legendary guys from the barrios of Buenos Aires started going to milongas to learn how it’s done from the old masters.  The three – Cacho Mantegassa, Eduardo Pareja and Carlos Perez – are now the old masters of milonguero style tango.

Vittoria and Guillermo, recently back from Buenos Aires, spent some time with these legends, learning their elegant salon style tango moves to bring them back  to the USA for us!

Come to SPC at 9:15 tonight to join in the lesson. It’s the real deal. Admission $12, $5 for full time students with ID.

Next week, November 1, is our Halloween Party. Don’t throw those costumes out prematurely.

We had such a fabulous time at our birthday party we’re trying to think of ways to have more birthdays.  We couldn’t help but notice, however, that it was a Thursday night with a 9:15 start time. Yet 60 or more of you came and stayed and stayed.  After we played the goodbye-go-home song (yikes, several of you even did a fox trot to that because you weren’t done dancing) we were shoveling people out the door after midnight. We love when that happens!!! Why doesn’t it happen more often?

People, you’ve proved to yourselves that tango is more important than sleep, that 9:15 is not too late to start having fun and that if enough of you show up it’s always a good time. All we can say is we want more of that. Think of it as a birthday present for Viva.

October 18, 2012

Join us on Thursday when Vittoria and Guillermo return from another world tour. This time they’ve brought an amazing gift with them. They’ve learned figures from three old time milongueros, the last of a dying breed, all elegant tango salon dancers.  V&G will be revealing the secrets of these legendary tangueros to us in their next few lessons. Don’t miss it.
