Thursday, October 9th. Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu are very popular instructors at Viva Tango and many other tango events. Their lessons are always clear and practical, and can be applied almost immediately in the following milonga. After the lesson Pablo and Iwona will be available at the side of the dance floor to help any dancers wishing more assistance with the lesson. Tonight’s DJ is Dimon. His carefully crafted tandas and danceable music selections will keep us on our feet throughout the evening.

Thursday, October 16th. Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla are frequent instructors and performers (together or individually) at Viva Tango. Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Andres was born and raised in Buenos Aires. He studied with and performed in the dance companies of three of the greatest tangueros of all time: Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, and Rodolfo Dinzel. Tonight’s DJ will be Ignacio Ondartz. His music selections are always heartwarming and will keep us dancing and wanting for more.

8:15 pm: Milonga with DJ Ignacio Ondartz.

Thursday, October 23rd. Martín Almirón is a five-time World Tango Dance Championship finalist. Martin has graced the stages of the world’s most prestigious theaters, including New York City Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, American Repertory Theater in Boston, National Theatre of Panama, and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. His special guest tonight is a professional tango dancer, teacher,and finalists of the 2019 and 2021 Tango World Cup. She will join Martin tonight in teaching the lesson and performing.

Thursday, October 2nd. Helen Wang & Jan Ben will teach a lesson and host the milonga. Helen is a very popular professional tango instructor and performer. Helen’s teaching brings together the music, passion, elegance, natural embrace, freedom of movement and expression of the dance. Her partner Jan Ben, is an accomplished tango dancer and will assist Helen with the lesson. Helen Wang is also an excellent DJ and will delight us with her music selections all evening, following the lesson.

Thursday, September 25th. Los Chantas are a multinational tango ensemble based in New York City. Their repertoire draws from the great Argentine tango tradition from the guardia vieja to the present. The group has been playing in milongas, clubs, theaters, and other venues in and around New York since its inception in 2002. With original arrangements of songs by Gardel, Troilo, Salgán, Piazzolla, and others, and a playful, improvised style, Los Chantas infuse classic tangos with new life and unique flavor. David Hodges – bandoneon, Emilio Teubal – keyboards, Sergio Rayes – violin. Plus, Omar Lagos who comes from Mendoza, Argentina will DJ. He is based in New York and is very popular DJ in and around the city.

Thursday, September 18th. Meredith Klein and Ignacio Ondartz are frequent instructors and performers (together or individually) at Viva Tango. Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Ignacio comes from a province of Buenos Aires. He began studying tango in 2000 with Julio Valdez and never stopped improving his dance and professional training, taking classes, seminars and workshops with renowned masters of the genre like Fabian Salas, Chicho Frumboli, Julio Balmaceda, among many others. Andress Amarilla will be the DJ tonight.

Her DJ handle is Doctora Margarita. She got her PhD in Ethno-musicology at CUNY, and has pursued Tango music as her main personal and academic interest. She has a massive collection of Tango music, and also an amazing collection of historic tango video clips. She DJ-ed at Viva several times in the past and we always enjoyed her cleverly crafted tandas.

Thursday, August 28. A duo of extraordinary musicians will play for your dancing pleasure. Maurizio Najt is a well-known regular at Viva Tango and at many other events. He played a leading role in the New York Tango revival scene during the late 90’s, performing with New York Tango Trio. He also was a member of Forever Tango Orchestra. Tito Castro is a bandoneón maestro, a living legend as a composer, arranger and performer, who’s been playing his instrument for six decades, since the age of 15. He was born and raised in Buenos Aires. Tito played milongas of Buenos Aires during the Golden Age of Tango. DJ DimOn will keep you dancing before, between, and after the live music sets.

8:30 pm: – First live music set with Maurizio and Tito.

His focus on classic tango de salon emphasizes realistic social style, the beauty of an elaborate dance, and a lyrical musicality that reaches from basic rhythm to beyond. Jake often uses a series format, exploring related moves to encourage his students’ versatility, and reviewing often to strengthen their retention. Known for his lucid explanations and practical advice, he views himself as a steppingstone to success in the milonga for his students. Jake’s recent series topics include “Elegant Tango Salon,” “Creativity in Tango,” “General Musicality,” “The Fleur-de-Lis,” and “Social Sacadas.”

Thursday, August 7th. Iakof Shonsky – Argentine tango maestro, founder of New York Tango Academy where he gives lessons on individual technique, couples technique, beginner and advanced lessons. These lessons take place at Kings Dance Studio in Brooklyn. He is a very popular instructor in New York and is often invited to teach at various milongas and tango festivals. Iakof is the organizer of La Bohema milonga which runs every first Friday. He comes from the Republic of Georgia where dance is integral part of national culture. Iakof is also an experienced tango DJ and will delight us with his well-crafted music selections tonight.
