This Thursday, December 5th, Aluminé Deluchi and Ariel Almirón return to do another fantastic performance VIDEO  and they will also teach a lesson and host the milonga. This is a magic night that you will want to be part of. The following week Pablo and Iwona will teach and Svetlana Howells will host the milonga.

The VivaTango Holiday Party with live music is on Thursday December 19. The whole VivaTango Community should be there. Come dance and celebrate with us.

The Holiday Party will be our final event this year. This has been a very good year with 50 memorable events. We are looking forward to making 2025 even better. The year starts off on January 2nd with a “Just Dance Milonga” hosted by DJ DimOn. Come dance, eat, drink, be merry and join in a toast to the new year.

ABRAZOS!

Thursday December 5th Aluminé Deluchi and Ariel Almirón are professional tango dancers, teachers, and finalists of the 2019 and 2021 Tango World Cup in tango stage and tango salon categories. They have also performed at many tango shows in Buenos Aires, such as Señor Tango, Café de los Angelitos, Tango Porteño, Palacio Tango, Rojo Tango, and others. They are currently on their USA Tour. Come and see their show in Princeton, and participate in a lesson from these esteemed instructors. Ariel is the brother of Martin Almirón who performed at Viva Tango in July 2022.

7:00 pm: All levels lesson.
8:15 pm: Milonga with DJ Aluminé Deluchi.
9:30 pm: Performance by Ariel and Aluminé.

Thursday, December 12th. Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu are the instructors for the Princeton Adult School, Tango classes. They are also very popular instructors at Viva Tango and other tango events. After the lesson Pablo and Iwona will be available at the side of the dance floor to help any dancers wishing more assistance with the lesson. DJ Svetlana Howells will play her best tandas for your dancing pleasure. Svetlana says “Tango is passionate, challenging, mood changing and completely addicting. It’s excellent for both your physical and mental state of being.

7:00 pm: All levels lesson.
8:15 pm: Milonga with DJ Aluminé Deluchi.
9:30 pm: Performance by Ariel and Aluminé.

Lesson $15, Milonga $15, or Both $20.

Emiliano Messiez is a Latin Grammy Nominee ’23 pianist and composer. With a very versatile and personal sound, he is the founder and director of the Orchestra Típica Messiez. He has performed all around the world in venues such as The Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of New York and The Houston Opera Theater, among others. Sergio Reyes is a violinist, composer, and arranger who is one of the most sought-after tango violinists. These extraordinary musicians will play for your dancing pleasure at VivaTango. Meredith Klein will DJ before and between the sets of live music.

7:00 pm: Milonga starts with DJ Meredith.
8:30 pm: First live music set by Emiliano and Sergio.

Admission:  $20. 

JUST DANCE, eat, drink and be merry with your friends at Viva Tango. We will have Holiday snacks and sparkling wine to toast the New 2025. And of course, DJ DimOn will play his festive tandas and cortinas all evening long. Come and celebrate the New Year 2025 with us. Note, we start at 8:00 pm, no lesson, performance, or live music – Just Dance!

VivaTango continues to need help to make events run smoothly. Setup only takes a little time and you do not miss any milonga time. The same is true about cleanup. WATER
We urge dancers to bring their water bottle from home to cut down on single use bottles. There is a chilled water fountain and a cold/hot water dispenser that you can use to refill your water bottle or get a drink to keep you hydrated.

DIRECTIONS
VivaTango is located at 45 Stockton Street, Princeton New Jersey. There is a well-lit, off-street parking lot at the venue. The large dance floor is in the smaller of the two buildings. The venue is easily accessed by rail from NYC and Philly. Just get a ticket to Princeton (not Princeton Junction. You get off the train at Princeton Junction and take the connecting shuttle train to Princeton.) The venue is 8 blocks from the Princeton Train Station with a lovely walk through the Princeton University Campus (0.8 mi.) MAP

VivaTango wishes that all of our dancers have a meaningful Thanksgiving. There will not be a milonga event on this Thanksgiving Thursday. I would like to say that I am thankful for all of you who make up the VivaTango Family. We are a community of varied individuals that come together weekly to embrace and support each other. What could be better than that to be thankful for.

The end of 2024 is in sight, but be sure to take time out to join your Tango Family for the final 3 events. The next event will feature the return of Aluminé Deluchi and Ariel Almirón to teach and perform on Thursday December 6th. VIDEO  Then Pablo and Iwona will teach on the following week.

Mark your calendar for the Holiday Party with live music that will be on Thursday December 19. That will be our final event for 2024. Details of all these events follow.

The end of 2024 is in sight. There are 4 more VivaTango Milongas remaining in this calendar year. Don’t miss any of them. Descriptions and links to each of these 4 events are in this newsletter.

This Thursday, November 21st will feature and lesson by Meredith Klien and Andres Amarilla plus a milonga hosted by DJ Ignacio Ondartz. This will be the last Thursday Tango in November since Thursday November 28th is Thanksgiving, and there will be no Thursday Tango on that holiday.

Thursday, November 21st. Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla are frequent instructors and performers (together or individually) at Viva Tango. Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Andres was born and raised in Buenos Aires. He studied with and performed in the dance companies of three of the greatest tangueros of all time: Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, and Rodolfo Dinzel. Ignacio will be the milonga DJ and play his very best music for you to dance to.

7:00 pm: All levels lesson.

Tomas and Gimena are two of the most requested artists in today’s Argentine tango. They toured United States, Italy, United Kingdom, Russia, Spain, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Mexico and China, integrating important dance companies from Argentina and the United States; also as masters of  tango dance. They performed at the world famous Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, at the “Vail international dance festival” and “Israel international festival” with the show “Romper el piso” as choreography assistants and dancers. They created diverse choreographies, for dance groups and artistic education institutions of Argentina.

Tomas and Gimena were honored with an invitation to Rome to dance at the Pope Francis’ birthday party. They were sub champions of the Buenos Aires tango dance metropolitan championship 2009, where more than 200 dancing couples competed. They were finalists in the tango dance world championship. They have appeared in theaters around the world, receiving excellent reviews where they went.

They performed with the important symphonies of Dallas, Edmonton, Michigan, Milwaukee, with the show “Tango Caliente” conducted by the Grammy winner Jeff Tyzik.

​Tomas, is co-author of the book “Arte para la vida” published in Argentina, by the vocational school of artistic expression of Catamarca.

​They are creators, choreographers and stars of their production “Tierra y fuego que camina”. The title of this dance theater show, is inspired by Atahualpa Yupanqui, an Argentine poet and artist. Earth and fire is the landscape of the world and the human heart where the essence of tango is always found. The show traces the experiences of two people celebrating life in each movement, in each melody both human and divine, two pilgrims in search of dreams, pilgrims of a road that never ends. their tango brings the action of the big city and nature, as pure and elemental as Earth and Fire.

Antonio Soares Cervila, born in San Paolo Brazil is known worldwide by his stage name, Junior Cervila. He is an internationally known performer, choreographer and instructor recognized for his creative tango stylings and intricate footwork. He learned tango in Buenos Aires principally with the great maestros: Antonio Todaro, Pepito Avellanedo, and Juan Carlos Copes. Junior has performed tango on the most world’s distinguished stages. Junior has been choreographic assistant to tango legend, Juan Carlos Copes, and his performances have been seen worldwide on Argentinian television, on stage (Broadway’s “Tango Argentino”), on tour (most notably with Julio Iglesias) and on screen (“Tango”, nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign film, 1999). Highlights of his career include performing in Tango Argentino (the shows by Segovia and Orezzioli), working with the singer Julio Iglesias, and dancing in the film Tango by Carlos Saura.

Guadalupe Garcia born in Argentina has performed and taught throughout South America, Europe, Asia and North America. 2004-2010 – Godoy’s Tango Company, Juan Corvalán’s Tangomalambo’s Company, and Roberto Herrera’s Company 2005- 2006 – Italy: shows “ Tango Querido” (Barletta), “ Noche porteña” (Matera) and “Patio Argentino” of Tango (Roma). 2007-2008 –Performer in “El Bandoneón” show in Athens. 2011 – Misterio Tango Festival (Argentina). 2009 – 2012- Teaching in Greece, United Kingdom, Poland, France, Italy, Portugal, Dubai, Brazil y Chile. 2012 – Performer in Argentina’s pavilion at the World Expo in Korea. 2014 – Principal Dancer at the show Glorias Porteñas, partnering with Juan Carlos Copes. 2015 – Tango e Paixão’s Show (Brazil). 2007 to present performer in local tango shows in Buenos Aires, such as Complejo Tango, Michelangelo, Taconeando, Piazzolla Tango, Gala Tango and Tango Porteño.

The Oscuro Quintet, radiates the passion and the grace of tango from dance floors to concert halls with well-established staples of tango and new, progressive forms of the genre, including pieces composed by members of the group. Bandoneonist Shinjoo Cho, pianist Emilio Teubal, violinist Joseph Kauffman, bassist Ben Blazer, and guitarist Jason Klinke meld their talents to produce music that not only meets the expectations of passion and flair in tango, it also starts a new path for the genre’s evolution. Members of the group have performed in tango festivals on three continents, and prestigious venues such ad Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center. Come and dance to their music. Non dancers are welcome to come and listen to them. Admission only $20.
