This Thursday Andres Amarilla and Jennine McKenna will host the milonga on February 20^th. They will share their joy of tango and teach a lesson on technique that will help you make your dancing more expressive and improvisational. This is Jennine’s second appearance at VivaTango. Andres will DJ for the milonga that follows the lesson.

The long range forecast for that Thursday has possible snow. In the event that this event is canceled, you will get an email before 4 PM, and it will be posted on Facebook at the same time.

Thursday February 27^th will feature Gustavo Russo and Florencia Lucano teaching and performing, plus guest DJ Lena Mashkovich. Gustavo Russo is an extraordinary dancer and choreographer. He was a star of Tango Passion and Tango Seduction shows. He and his talented partner Florencia Lucano travel the world giving master classes and performing at tango festivals. They look forward to bringing a bit of their show from Buenos Aires to you.

March will start with live music by Claudio Morsella and Eran Polat whose mastery of guitar and mutual synergy create very danceable and exciting tango music for your enjoyment. This milonga will be just dancing.

Lena Mashkovich is an experienced traditional tango DJ, who has been playing tango music for over 20 years. Her extensive knowledge of the genre and its history brings a unique flavor to any event.

Thursday, March 6th. Claudio Morsella and Eran Polat have delighted Viva Tango dancers several times in the past. They return to perform for us by popular demand. Their mastery of guitar and mutual synergy create very danceable and exciting tango music for our enjoyment. Their expressions of familiar tango tunes are unique and sensual. February starts off with a milonga hosted by Daniela Arcuri on February 6^th. Daniela has done it all: choreographer, teacher, producer, performer, films and DJ. Read more about her accomplishments in the event description below. Daniela graduated with honors from the prestigious “Escuela Nacional de Danzas”, where she received a Master of Dance Teacher degree and began teaching, choreographing and performing in all forms of dance. She appeared in many shows, TV programs, festivals, movies, and commercials throughout the world. Daniela is well known for her teaching expertise in both leader and follower roles, and in all the tango rhythms, especially milonga. She will also DJ for us tonight.

Thursday, February 13th. Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu are the tango instructors for the Princeton Adult School Tango classes. They are also very popular instructors at Viva Tango and other tango events. Tonight they will teach an all-levels lesson. After the lesson Pablo and Iwona will be available at the side of the dance floor to help any dancers wishing more assistance with the lesson. In addition, Pablo Garcia Gomez will be the DJ. His unique taste and understanding of tango music are reflected in the selections of the tunes we will be dancing to this evening.

Thursday, January 23. A duo of extraordinary musicians will play for your dancing pleasure. Maurizio Najt is a well-known regular at Viva Tango and many other events. He played a leading role in the New York Tango revival scene during the late 90’s, performing with New York Tango Trio. He also was a member of Forever Tango Orchestra. Tito Castro is a bandoneón maestro, a living legend as a composer, arranger and performer, who’s been playing his instrument for six decades, since the age of 15. He was born and raised in Buenos Aires. Tito has played at milongas of Buenos Aires during the Golden Age of Tango. DJ Urszula will keep you dancing between sets.

Thursday, January 30th. Coming from Montreal, Melina Mistral pierced the international and festival/marathon stage first in the USA, to eventually expand out to Europe. Her experience and versatility as a social dancer in both roles, as well as a professional teacher and performer, have made her very sensitive to the dancer’s energy. She believes in a balance of fun, sweet, power & drama, keeping in mind the venue, the event, the time of day and the dancers. Our DJ Sara La Rocca is well-known in New York City and Washington, DC as a long-time organizer of the legendary All-night Milonga, and recently the Milonga Volver. She also excels at selecting and playing her tango tunes to keep up the dancer’s mood and inspire them to dance.

January will wrap up with two more events. Live music by legend Tito Castro and Maurizio Najt on January 23. Then, two special guests Melina Mistral from Montreal and DJ Sara La Roca from NYC and Washington DC on January 30^th.

Snow started falling last Thursday afternoon and the turnout at VivaTango was about half of the normal. Those who came were treated to an event that was much more intimate due to small attendance. Dancers enjoyed a great lesson and a milonga filled with warm embraces. Snow in NJ in the winter is a real likelihood. In the event of a storm significant enough to make driving dangerous we will announce an event closure by means of this email at least 2 hours prior to the event. So, if you are uncertain if the milonga will take place, check your email.

Thursday, January 9th. Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu are very popular instructors at Viva Tango and other tango events. This is a Viva debut for DJ Gerardo Razumney who grew up listening to tango in his native Buenos Aires. Although his generation was mostly dancing rock and roll, the essence of tango became a part of him. Gerardo likes tango from all the decades, not just the Golden Era, but also la Guardia Vieja of the late 20’s and 30’s, as well as the more modern creations from the 50’s, 60’s and contemporary ones.

VivaTango is located at 45 Stockton Street, Princeton New Jersey. There is a well-lit, off-street parking lot at the venue. The large dance floor is in the smaller of the two buildings. The venue is easily accessed by rail from NYC and Philly. Just get a ticket to Princeton (not Princeton Junction. You get off the train at Princeton Junction and take the connecting shuttle train to Princeton.) The venue is 8 blocks from the Princeton Train Station with a lovely walk through the Princeton University Campus (0.8 mi.) MAP

The VivaTango Holiday Party with live music is on Thursday December 19^th. This annual tradition draws back the whole VivaTango family. We are always happy to see dancers and instructors who have not been dancing recently join in. Expect to see many dancers you have not seen recently at this event. Dance and socialize with your friends at this party. Live music will be provided by Emiliano Messiez and Sergio Reyes. DJ Meredith Klein will make you dance with her music. Do not sit home this Thursday!

The Holiday Party will be our final event this year. This has been a very good year with 50 Memorable Events . We are looking forward to making 2025 even better. The new year starts off on January 2^nd with a “Just Dance Milonga” hosted by DJ DimOn. Come dance, eat, drink, be merry and join in a toast to the new year.

At VivaTango – You Will Dance

ABRAZOS

Emiliano Messiez is a Latin Grammy Nominee ’23 pianist and composer. With a very versatile and personal sound, he is the founder and director of the Orchestra Típica Messiez. He has performed all around the world in venues such as The Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of New York and The Houston Opera Theater, among others. Sergio Reyes is a violinist, composer, and arranger who is one of the most sought-after tango violinists. These extraordinary musicians will play for your dancing pleasure at VivaTango. Meredith Klein will DJ before and between the sets of live music.

7:00 pm: Milonga starts with DJ Meredith.
8:30 pm: First live music set by Emiliano and Sergio.

Admission:  $20. 

JUST DANCE, eat, drink and be merry with your friends at Viva Tango. We will have Holiday snacks and sparkling wine to toast the New 2025. And of course, DJ DimOn will play his festive tandas and cortinas all evening long. Come and celebrate the New Year 2025 with us. Thursday, January 9th. Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu are very popular instructors at Viva Tango and other tango events. After the lesson Pablo and Iwona will be available at the side of the dance floor to help any dancers wishing more assistance with the lesson. This is a Viva debut for DJ Gerardo Razumney who grew up listening to tango in his native Buenos Aires. Although his generation was mostly dancing rock and roll, the essence of tango became a part of him. Gerardo likes tango from all the decades, not just the Golden Era, but also la Guardia Vieja of the late 20’s and 30’s, as well as the more modern creations from the 50’s, 60’s and contemporary ones.

7:00 pm: All levels lesson.
8:15 pm: Milonga with DJ Gerardo (de Monserrat) Razumney.
Lesson $15, Milonga $15, or Both $20.

Thursday, January 23. A duo of extraordinary musicians will play for your dancing pleasure. Maurizio Najt is a well-known regular at Viva Tango and many other events. He played a leading role in the New York Tango revival scene during the late 90’s, performing with New York Tango Trio. He also was a member of Forever Tango Orchestra. Tito Castro is a bandoneón maestro, a living legend as a composer, arranger and performer, who’s been playing his instrument for six decades, since the age of 15. He was born and raised in Buenos Aires. Tito has played at milongas of Buenos Aires during the Golden Age of Tango. DJ Urszula will keep you dancing between sets.

– Milonga begins at 7:00 pm with DJ Urszula.
– First live music set starts approx. at 8:30 pm.
– Admission: $20.

FREE EVENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS
VivaTango continues to need help to make events run smoothly. Setup only takes a little time and you do not miss any milonga time. The same is true about cleanup. WATER
We urge dancers to bring their water bottle from home to cut down on single use bottles. There is a chilled water fountain and a cold/hot water dispenser that you can use to refill your water bottle or get a drink to keep you hydrated.

This Thursday Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu will be teaching the pre-milonga lesson at 7 PM. They also will hold a one-on-one practica on the side floor during the milonga to help anyone with mastering the lesson. DJ Svetlana Howells will host the milonga beginning at 8:15.
