This newsletter ends with the sad news that one of Princeton’s favorite Tango dancers has passed away. Joanne Harriet Barker died this past week. She began dancing tango soon after it began at the Princeton University Tango Club which was founded in 1998. She continued and together with Herb Tuchman was a great supporter of Blackcat Tango. She continued dancing with VivaTango from its founding in 2013. I am sure many of you danced with her, and even more of you enjoyed the home-made cakes that she contributed to the food table every week for many years. Her smile and presence on the dance floor will be missed. At the end of this newsletter is a collection of recent and older photos of Joanne. The oldest photo, from 14 years ago, shows Joanne and Herb Tuckman. Joanne’s Family was with her as she passed peacefully. Her Family plans to have a celebration of her life in a few months. If you have additional or older photos of Joanne please send them to me by replying to this newsletter.

January will wrap up with two more events. Live music by legend Tito Castro and Maurizio Najt on January 23. Then, two special guests Melina Mistral from Montreal and DJ Sara La Roca from NYC and Washington DC on January 30th.

Snow started falling last Thursday afternoon and the turnout at VivaTango was about half of the normal. Those who came were treated to an event that was much more intimate due to small attendance. Dancers enjoyed a great lesson and a milonga filled with warm embraces. Snow in NJ in the winter is a real likelihood. In the event of a storm significant enough to make driving dangerous we will announce an event closure by means of this email at least 2 hours prior to the event. So, if you are uncertain if the milonga will take place, check your email.

Our DJ Sara La Rocca is well-known in New York City and Washington, DC as a long-time organizer of the legendary All-night Milonga, and recently the Milonga Volver. She also excels at selecting and playing her tango tunes to keep up the dancer’s mood and inspire them to dance.
