Thursday, June 5th, Choreographer, Teacher, Producer and Tango Performer for over 35 years, Daniela Arcuri grew up in the heart of Buenos Aires. Her ability to connect movement and emotion with the music have earned her top accolades. Daniela graduated with honors from the prestigious “Escuela Nacional de Danzas”, where she received a Master of Dance Teacher degree and began teaching, choreographing and performing in all forms of dance. She appeared in many shows, TV programs, festivals, movies, and commercials throughout the world. Daniela is well known for her teaching expertise in both leader and follower roles, and in all the tango rhythms, especially milonga. She will also DJ for us tonight.

Thursday, June 12th. Pablo Garcia Gomez and Iwona Ionescu are the tango instructors for the Princeton Adult School Tango classes. They are also very popular instructors at Viva Tango and other tango events. Tonight they will teach an all-levels lesson. After the lesson Pablo and Iwona will be available at the side of the dance floor to help any dancers wishing more assistance with the lesson. Rainier Pereira (Ray) is a well-known, excellent DJ and teacher from NYC. He is in high demand at tango events all over the USA and will delight us tonight with his eclectic selection of danceable music.

Meredith is a frequent teacher and performer at Viva and is well known in our community. She is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Ignacio will be the milonga DJ and play his very best music for you to dance to.

This Thursday Oleg and Lena Mashkovich will host the milonga. They are internationally recognized performers, teachers, DJs and organizers. Last week they participated in the second phase of the World Tango Championships in Buenos Aires and took 6^th place competing against the 450 other couples that qualified for this second phase. They will move on to the final round in August. Oleg and Lena Mashkovich are internationally recognized Argentine tango dancers, performers, teachers, DJs, and event organizers. They are the founders of the Tango Design Company and Argentine Tango School, currently based in Philadelphia. They host dinner and tango shows, and organize a “Winter Tango Escape” which is an annual Tango tour to Buenos Aires. They teach Tango following old tradition, and exploring new technique and flavors, combining them and giving the resulting style their own personality. Oleg and Lena participated in the prestigious Argentine Tango competitions, always becoming finalists, And last week they placed 6^th in a field of 450 couples to qualify for the World Championship in Buenos Aires. Lena will be the DJ. She has the passion and enthusiasm to deliver unforgettable tango experience.

Thomas and Dagny Miller are hosting our milonga tonight. They have been teaching together at Yale Tango Club for five years. Dagny organizes the Abrazos Tango Festival and the Blue Moon milonga, both in NYC. She has travelled and performed throughout the USA. Robin has been teaching and DJ-ing tango for 23 years, he taught tango in Princeton for 17 years and is known for growing the tango communities in several universities, specifically in New York City. He is the host of Gallo Ciego Milonga in New York’s East Village. Robin Thomas will also be the DJ this evening.

Thursday, May 15th. Ignacio Ondartz and Meredith Klein are frequent instructors and performers at Viva Tango. Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Her partner Ignacio comes from a province of Buenos Aires. He began studying tango in 2000 with Julio Valdez and never stopped improving his dance and professional training, taking classes, seminars and workshops with renowned masters of the genre like Fabian Salas, Chicho Frumboli, Julio Balmaceda, among many others. Andres Amarilla will be the DJ this evening.

Thursday, May 22nd will feature Rocio & Luciano Capparelli, stars of the Tango Fire traveling Tango Show. The New York Times review of their Tango Fire performance in NYC said “No couple was as beautifully lavish as Luciano Capparelli and Rocio de los Santos. In each of their tangos, tension gave way to voluptuous softness, and powerful overhead lifts melted onto the floor in silken extensions. As the title goes, they were on fire.” They will teach a lesson and afterwards, Luciano will DJ the milonga for your dancing pleasure.

Gabriel taught and performed for over a decade throughout North America. He believes that tango is a language we speak with our bodies. His focus is musical interpretation using the body as a medium for expression and the mechanics of connection. Catrinel sees tango as an excellent tool for personal growth. She hopes that through her teaching and dancing she can help others to feel confident, empowered and comfortable in their own skin.

This Thursday we have Princeton’s popular teaching team, Pablo and Iwona. Their lesson this week is on “Looping Turns” (Giros en bucles). In addition to teaching at VivaTango once each month, they teach a series of 6 lessons to give beginners a start twice a year, and also semi-private group lessons (the next of these will start May 6). Our lessons are held on a large dance floor, with good off-street parking and are a bargain.

Thursday April 24^th will feature live music by the Curateto Quartet. This event may be the best milonga in NJ this year – come and find out! Send me a message if you know of a better one. Expect to dance and experience the international feeling of Tango. More details about these events follow in the event descriptions and links below.

They are also very popular instructors at Viva Tango and other tango events. Tonight, they will teach an all-levels lesson. Thursday, May 1st. Gabriel Huracan Gaumond & Catrinel Iftode come from Washington DC. Their dance style has been characterized as very romantic. Gabriel taught and performed for over a decade throughout North America. He believes that tango is a language we speak with our bodies. His focus is musical interpretation using the body as a medium for expression and the mechanics of connection. Catrinel sees tango as an excellent tool for personal growth. She hopes that through her teaching and dancing she can help others to feel confident, empowered and comfortable in their own skin.

8:15 pm: Milonga with DJ Gabriel Gaumond.
9:30 pm: Performance by Gabriel and Catrinel.

We urge dancers to bring their water bottle from home to cut down on single use bottles. There is a chilled water fountain and a cold/hot water dispenser that you can use to refill your water bottle or get a drink to keep you hydrated.

VivaTango is located at 45 Stockton Street, Princeton New Jersey. There is a well-lit, off-street parking lot at the venue. The large dance floor is in the smaller of the two buildings. The venue is easily accessed by rail from NYC and Philly. Just get a ticket to Princeton (not Princeton Junction. You get off the train at Princeton Junction and take the connecting shuttle train to Princeton.) The venue is 8 blocks from the Princeton Train Station with a lovely walk through the Princeton University Campus (0.8 mi.) MAP

Thanks to the dancers that came to support the live music last Thursday. Jaun and Patricio made that a magical milonga. This Thursday Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla plus DJ Ignacio Ondartz will be there to make your evening special. More details are in the event descriptions and links below. Also in the material below are the stellar instructors, musicians, performers and DJs that will be at VivaTango later in April, and also a peak at what is coming in May.

Dancing is the top activity for reducing dementia! It beats walking, exercising, crossword puzzles and all other activities according to an article in the scientific New England Journal of Medicine.  This is another good reason to remember to come to all VivaTango events!

Thursday, April 10th. Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla are frequent instructors and performers (together or individually) at Viva Tango. Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Andres was born and raised in Buenos Aires. He studied with and performed in the dance companies of three of the greatest tangueros of all time: Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, and Rodolfo Dinzel. Ignacio will be the milonga DJ and play his very best music for you to dance to.

Thursday, April 3rd. Juan Villarreal and Patricio Crom guitar duo. Juan is a singer, guitarist and composer. Patricio is an arranger, composer, and guitarist. They are one of the most recognized duos of the tango scene in Buenos Aires and the world. They have embarked on countless tours across Latin America, Europe, and North America. They have released many albums and were featured on the cover of “Tangodanza,” the world’s most widely circulated tango magazine. Juan and Patricio join you at VivaTango. This will be just like being present at a milonga in a club in Buenos Aires. DJ Svetlana will spin her whimsical tandas before, between, and after the live sets.
