Last Thursday 75 dancers were rewarded by a spectacular milonga, lesson and performanc. October is a fantastic month at VivaTango. Next Thursday there will be another outstanding milonga with lesson and a performance bu Oleg and Lena, PLUS Harvey Schwartz from Washington DC will return to DJ. AND THEN,
Halloween falls on a Thursday this year, so VivaTango will be the place to come and show off you costume or come and see what characters are on the dance floor that evening.  Claudio Morsella and Eran Polat will provide live music and DJ DimOn will MC this PARTY. Start thinking about your costume. Don’s miss any of these milongas.

IMPORANT VivaTango is needing a several more volunteers to share the load with the existing volunteers. Looking for persons be hosts at the welcome desk. This is a great opportunity to meet people and learn names. Also, persons to buy the food for the food table. The dancers greatly appreciate the food. Please volunteer by contacting Sylvie

Thursday, October 24th. Oleg and Lena Mashkovich are well known in Buenos Aires and in USA as experienced (23+ years) Argentine Tango dancers, teachers, performers, and DJ. They teach Tango with respect to the authentic roots of this unique culture, following old tradition, and exploring new technique and flavors, combining them and giving the resulting style their own personality. Oleg and Lena participated in the prestigious Argentine Tango competitions, always becoming finalists, and recently taking a second place in the Dutch Open Competition. Harvey Schwartz is returning to Viva Tango as our guest DJ from DC.
7:00 pm: All levels lesson – Modifying linear movements into circular.
8:15 pm: Milonga, featuring a performance by Oleg and Lena.

Thursday, October 31st. Our Halloween milonga will feature Live Music by acoustic guitar duo of Claudio Morsella and Eran Polat. They return to perform at Viva Tango by popular demand. Their mastery of guitar and mutual synergy create very danceable and exciting tango music for our enjoyment. Dancers are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costume and contribute to the fun atmosphere. DJ Dimon will play his best tango selections and scary cortinas before, between, and after the two live music sets. Milonga starts at 7:00 pm with Dimon playing frightening tandas.

First live music set starts around 8:30 pm.
Admission $20.

VivaTango continues to need help to make events run smoothly. Setup only takes a little time and you do not miss any milonga time. The same is true about cleanup. Working on the welcome desk is a great way to get to know your fellow dancers. The hero of the night is the person who brings the food for the event. If you can help contactSylvie

We urge dancers to bring their water bottle from home to cut down on single use bottles. There is a chilled water fountain and a cold/hot water dispenser that you can use to refill your water bottle or get a drink to keep you hydrated.

VivaTango is located at 45 Stockton Street, Princeton New Jersey. There is a well-lit, off-street parking lot at the venue. The large dance floor is in the smaller of the two buildings. The venue is easily accessed by rail from NYC and Philly. Just get a ticket to Princeton (not Princeton Junction. You get off the train at Princeton Junction and take the connecting shuttle train to Princeton.) The venue is 8 blocks from the Princeton Train Station with a lovely walk through the Princeton University Campus (0.8 mi.) MAP

On October 17,  Los Totis (Virginia Gómez & Christian Márquez) from BA will host the milonga, perform and teach a lesson. And on October 24, Oleg and Lena will teach and perform, and Harvey Schwartz from Washington DC will DJ. Harvey receive great praise at his first visit to VivaTango.

Thursday, October 17th. Los Totis (Virginia Gómez & Christian Márquez) will teach a lesson on Musical Exercises and Figures for Vals and they will do a performance. They are renowned for their strength, maturity and defined tango style. They have been working together since 1997, participating in many important national and international shows. In Buenos Aires, they are invited to participate in the most important tango festivals such as CITA, Tango Salón Extremo, Argentina Tango Salón, and Mujercitas, among others. They are regularly invited by the Government of Buenos Aires to serve on the jury of the Metropolitan Tango Championship and World Tango Championship. Since 2002, they have been traveling in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, to give workshops and participate in tango festivals. Their dance is characterized by the precision and quality of their movements.  They are beloved for their elegance, musicality, and the way they distill and preserve the purest essence of tango. All levels lesson starts at 7:00 pm, milonga at 8:15 pm. Cost $20.

VivaTango welcomes October with a mont that includes 3 performances and a Halloween Party with live music and a surprise of historic proportion.

Thursday October 3rd Helen Wang returns to host the milonga with Rainier Periera who will be her teaching partner and performance partner.

Thursday October 3rd Helen Wang and Rainier Pereira. Will host Milonga, Teach a Lesson and Perform. Rainier, one of the instructors of the renowned DNI Tango School in Buenos Aires began dancing Tango at age 19 has honed his skills in various roles, including performer, teacher, DJ, and milonga organizer. Helen from NYC is a frequent instructor, performer and DJ at VivaTango. Lesson at 7 PM, Milonga at 8:15 and Performance at 9:30. $20. EVENT LINK

Thursday the legendary bandoneon player, Tito Casto, who together with Maurizio Najt on the piano and bass player Tom Kirchmer will play live music for your dancing pleasure – AND by popular demand Helen Wang will DJ between the live sets.

Thursday, September 26th will feature a trio of extraordinary musicians who will play “unplugged”, without microphones, for your dancing pleasure. Maurizio Najt is a well-known regular at Viva Tango and many other events. He played a leading role in the New York Tango revival scene during the late 90’s, performing with New York Tango Trio. He also was a member of Forever Tango Orchestra. Tito Castro is a bandoneon maestro, a living legend as a composer, arranger and performer, who’s been playing his bandoneon for six decades. He was born and lived in Buenos Aires where he started playing bandoneon at age 15. Tito has played at milongas of Buenos Aires during the Golden Age of Tango. Tom Kirchmer is a bassist extraordinaire. He began playing tango with Jorge Anders and Tito Castro in 2001 and recorded the album “Con Polenta” with that trio, named the “Buenos Aires Tango Trio”. He has played with Tito Castro ever since. He has performed on the sound track to Ang Lee’s 2007 film “Lust, Caution” and toured Japan with Anna Saeki playing tango with Tito Castro and Maurizio Najt. Between live music sets, our favorite DJ and performer Helen Wang will play her favorite tandas to keep us dancing.

Milonga begins at 7 pm with DJ Helen. First live music set starts approx. at 8:30 pm. $20.

This Thursday’s milonga will feature Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla plus DJ Ignacio Ondartz.

Thursday September 19th DJ Ignacio Ondartz hosts milonga and Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla teach a lesson.  Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Andres was born and raised in Buenos Aires. He studied with and performed in the dance companies of three of the greatest tangueros of all time: Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, and Rodolfo Dinzel. Introducing Ignacio is a well-known instructor, performer and DJ from Buenos Aires. Ignacio will be the host DJ for the milonga. 7:00 Lesson $15, 8:15 Milonga $15, Both $20. EVENT LINK

Thursday September 12th will feature a lesson by Pablo Garcia Gomez & Iwona Ionescu. The all-levels lesson will teach lápices for leaders and embellishments that followers can do to accompany them. After the lesson, Pablo and Iwona will hold a guided practica space, where dancers can polish the lesson skills and practice with the instructors. DJ Eugene Jantos will host the milonga that starts at 8:15. Gene will be playing great tandas from his vast collection of Tango music for your dancing pleasure. Lesson at 7 PM, Milonga at 8:15. WATER
We urge dancers to bring their water bottle from home to cut down on single use bottles. There is a chilled water fountain and a cold/hot water dispenser that you can use to refill your water bottle or get a drink to keep you hydrated.

DIRECTIONS
VivaTango is located at 45 Stockton Street, Princeton New Jersey. There is a well-lit, off-street parking lot at the venue. The large dance floor is in the smaller of the two buildings. The venue is easily accessed by rail from NYC and Philly. Just get a ticket to Princeton (not Princeton Junction. You get off the train at Princeton Junction and take the connecting shuttle train to Princeton.) The venue is 8 blocks from the Princeton Train Station with a lovely walk through the Princeton University Campus (0.8 mi.) MAP

Thursday September 5th features live music by the Latin GRAMMY Award winning Pedro Girado Quartet. Pedro Giraudo, has become a cultural ambassador of this beautiful and passionate music of his native Argentina. The quartet brings something new and exciting to Tango while retaining all the lushness and beauty of the Tango musical tradition. They will play for your dancing pleasure in the intimate setting of the VivaTango dance floor. DimOn the tango DJ will play tandas between the sets of live music starting at 7 PM. Live music starts at 8:30. $20     EVENT LINK

Thursday September 12th will feature a lesson by Pablo Garcia Gomez & Iwona Ionescu. The all-levels lesson will teach lápices for leaders and embellishments that followers can do to accompany them. After the lesson, Pablo and Iwona will hold a guided practica space, where dancers can polish the lesson skills and practice with the instructors. DJ Eugene Jantos will host the milonga that starts at 8:15. Gene will be playing great tandas from his vast collection of Tango music for your dancing pleasure. Lesson at 7 PM, Milonga at 8:15. Thursday September 19th DJ Ignacio Ondartz hosts milonga and Meredith Klein and Andres Amarilla teach a lesson.  Meredith is the founder of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (PATS). She is a popular instructor, performer and the organizer of the annual Philadelphia Tango Festival. Andres was born and raised in Buenos Aires. He studied with and performed in the dance companies of three of the greatest tangueros of all time: Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, and Rodolfo Dinzel. Introducing Ignacio is a well-known instructor, performer and DJ from Buenos Aires. Ignacio will be the host DJ for the milonga. 7:00 Lesson $15, 8:15 Milonga $15, Both $20. EVENT LINK

At VivaTango – You Will Dance
ABRAZOS!

Thursday August 29th features live music by Shinjoo Cho, Alejo de los Reyes and Pablo Lanouguere. Alejo is one of the most highly regarded Tango guitarists in the world. He is on tour and VivaTango is please to host him for your dancing pleasure. He is joined by Shinjoo and Pablo – both extraordinary Tango musicians based here in the NYC and Philly area. Alejo is a third-generation Argentine guitarist trained by his father and grandfather. He has performed in many prestigious events around the world. He is also a composer and recording artist. Shinjoo (bandoneon) is a leader and member of Tango musical groups in the Philly and NYC area. Pablo (double-base) is also a well known Tango musician and frequent performer at VivaTango. These three musicians recently performed in NYC at the Lincoln Center, Summer for the City concert as part of the Abbadon Tango Group performance. Come see these amazing musicians in the intimate venue of the VivaTango dance floor. DJ Kerry Kay will be the host of this milonga. She will play Tangos for your dancing pleasure starting at 7 PM. Live music starts at 8:30. $20

August at VivaTango continues with great events. Here is a VIDEO  from the August 1 event. This Thursday we gave guest DJ Karen Johnson hosting the milonga and teaching a lesson with Andres Amarilla. August ends with a milonga with a great trio of musicians. See details of all these events below.

At VivaTango – You Will Dance
ABRAZOS!

August 15th  Andres Amarilla and Karen Johnson will host the milonga and teach a lesson.  Andres was born and raised in Buenos Aires. He studied with and performed in the dance companies of three of the greatest tangueros of all time: Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, and Rodolfo Dinzel. Karen is a dual role dancer and co-founder of Philly Queer Tango. She has taught queer tango across the United States. Karen will also DJ the milonga. Her sets are primarily traditional, highly danceable Golden Age tandas, with thoughtful contemporary and alternative accents. She loves creating warm, energetic settings where people are excited to dance every tanda. 7:00 Lesson $15, 8:15 Milonga $15, Both $20.
